Bitcoin feels like it’s quietly becoming something much bigger than “digital gold”

Feels like the narrative around Bitcoin is shifting again.

It used to be digital cash vs digital gold. Now it’s starting to look more like a base settlement layer for a parallel financial system.

What’s interesting is the split:

  • Institutions are treating it like a regulated asset (ETFs, custody, exposure)
  • Individuals are still treating it like sovereignty (self-custody, no intermediaries)

That tension doesn’t really exist in most assets.

So I’m wondering, does institutional adoption eventually dilute Bitcoin’s original purpose, or does it actually strengthen it by making it too big to ignore?

Curious how people here see it evolving over the next few years.
